Tom has developed his own method of what he calls 'colour tension' painting, which is constructed around the idea that true effectiveness is found when the mind catches tensions that the eye doesn't see.
The method explores the combining of hue and tone in relation to the point at which colours clash.
Irrespective of his medium he is keen to maintain a feeling of freshness to his work by experimenting with new stylistic components. He began producing artwork in earnest in the form of etchings printed, initially, on his mother's etching press
His chief influences have long been JMW Turner and John Piper.
Tom has lived in, and more recently near Oxford for almost twenty years. Last year he began using oils, having enjoyed considerable success with his watercolours and etchings in exhibitions in Oxford, London and his county of birth, Sussex.
